Oracle Autonomous Database – the only smart option?

When it comes to choosing an enterprise database for the cloud, there will always be a trade-off depending on your priorities and preferences. Do you choose speed over security? Uptime versus cost? Architecture or infrastructure?

But the truth is you don’t have to compromise. For the sixth year in a row, Gartner has awarded Oracle Autonomous Database top spot for cloud database management systems for operational use cases. Oracle is still a recognised leader in the 2023 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems.

Suitable for all use cases

Sometimes analyst awards are defined by very narrow categories. Not a problem if your use case matches that exact niche, but it’s not all that helpful as a benchmark for everyone else.

That’s not the case with this latest Gartner award, however. Oracle Autonomous Database came top in all three real-world use cases; OLTP Transactions, Lightweight Transactions, and Operational Intelligence. This implies that Oracle is suitable for any enterprise cloud database requirement.

Breaking the vendor stranglehold

Often superior benchmark scores are achieved using a vendor-centric tech stack. That makes sense; by controlling every aspect of the environment, vendors can more easily control and optimise database performance.

And although Oracle does recommend using Autonomous Database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), users are not limited in their choice. Oracle Autonomous Database is also available in the Microsoft Cloud thanks to Oracle Database@Azure. Importantly, OCI-level performance is still available, even in a non-Oracle cloud environment.

Essentially, there is no trade-off between performance and tech stack.

Native integration for practical multi-cloud operations

Far from general marketing hype, Oracle Autonomous Database is optimised for all workloads and data. The benefits of Oracle are not constrained by the features or limitations of your public cloud provider.

Oracle Autonomous Database integrates with Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Blob and Google Cloud storage. This offers unprecedented choice for your database, operations and any attached apps and services. With Oracle Autonomous Database you regain complete control of your tech stack, tailoring it to your strategic goals for maximum benefit.

Anything everywhere

Imagine being able to run anything everywhere. Oracle Distributed Cloud makes that possible, from enterprise apps to AI, running on a full cloud stack deployed wherever you choose.

Whether you want SaaS, PaaS, IaaS or on-premise, the Oracle Distributed Cloud allows you to use any combination according to your needs. And with the option to deploy 100+ best-of-breed services as part of your cloud stack, you have access to all the tools you need. Choose services from Oracle, Microsoft, Google, and AWS to help you optimise functionality, performance, and costs – and to meet your strategic goals.

So with the ability to provision and operate performant databases with a unified experience across clouds, why would your business choose an alternative that limits choice and potential?
