Why is Oracle a Leader for Strategic Cloud Platform Services?

Gartner has awarded Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) the coveted “Leader” status in the 2023 Magic Quadrant review of strategic cloud platform services. This prestigious recognition demonstrated that OCI is at the forefront of mature, secure strategic cloud provision.

So how did OCI secure Leader status?

Increased cloud region choice

Widespread geopolitical instability has increased the importance of data location, with many organisations needing to on-shore their data to reduce risk and maintain compliance. Similarly, applications reliant on real-time data processing require geographic proximity between users and data centres to reduce latency.

In recognition of both these strategic requirements, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is now available in 47 public cloud regions located in 23 countries across the globe This provides customers with a wide choice of locations for their data assets according to their sovereignty and compliance requirements.

OCI has also introduced government-centric cloud services that are tailored to the enhanced compliance requirements for handling sensitive information. Importantly, these offerings are available at no extra charge, allowing public sector bodies to utilise the very best cloud functionality without incurring a service premium.

Embracing multi-cloud strategies

The reality is that no one cloud platform meets every strategic requirement. Instead, companies must “pick and choose” specific services from a range of vendors if they are to build best-of-breed applications.

OCI not only realises this fact but embraces it by enabling customers to combine services from multiple clouds to optimise cost, functionality, and performance. Oracle has worked closely with Microsoft Azure and AWS to ensure Oracle database and OCI services can be used across all three clouds according to each customer’s needs.

Oracle is also a keen proponent of on-premise cloud services through the Compute Cloud@Customer and Exadata Cloud@Customer programs. These services allow customers to scale compute and storage resources as demand changes without capital investment in hardware. When workloads are ready to migrate to the ‘true’ cloud, OCI’s built-in tools help to simplify and streamline the transition.

Artificial Intelligence Everywhere

While consumers have been engaging with generative AI, corporate users have been focusing on how artificial intelligence can accelerate and automate infrastructure management. COI goes further still, integrating AI capabilities across infrastructure, data, services, and applications.

What does that look like? Consider the OCI Supercluster, which scales up to 4,096 OCI Compute bare metal instances with up to 32,768 GPUs for training and operating complex AI models quickly and efficiently. This is complemented by a new, secure Generative AI service to help organisations improve automation, decision-making, and customer experiences.

The generative AI service is available across all Oracle SaaS applications to accelerate adoption and help users do more, everywhere.

Building for the future

Being a leader in strategic cloud platform services means embracing the open future and working more closely with customers to define exactly what that means. Gartner notes that Oracle has been developing important partnerships with NVIDIA, Microsoft, VMware, and Red Hat, to ensure customers can have their choice of best-of-breed technologies in the cloud.
